In Psalm 127:3 we read, "Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord and the fruit of the womb is His (God's) reward." For anyone to abort her offspring, whether conceived in or out of wedlock, is a sin against the God of Heaven, the Creator Who giveth to all life and breath (Acts 17:25). The big question which seems to baffle the great minds of medical men is, ",At what stage in gestation is a fetus a soul?" This question should not be such a puzzle if God's Word were accepted to be what it is - authoritative and conclusive. In Psalm 139:13-16 we read the following - "For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother's womb. I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them." These verses should strike the fear of the righteous, holy God into the heart of anyone who would dare to tamper with God's divine work of the creation of a human being, irrespective of any stage in gestation. In these verses God takes us back even before conception and gives a picture of Ms omnipotence (Almighty Power) in bringing into being a human life even from the earth's substance where it was concealed from the view of all but Himself. In loving terms He expresses how precious mankind was to Him even when still in that substance in the earth (Psalm 139:17,18). What holy reverence we owe to God when we think He knew, loved and preserved even our substance before it was brought together as a body in the womb of the mother, fearfully and wonderfully made and made to possess an immortal soul which can never die, but will exist throughout never-ending eternity. This only is the work of God and God alone. No mother having conceived in fornication or as the result of the marriage relationship, which is ordained of God, should ever permit the fruit of her womb to be aborted. May we consider such action:1. It is a sin against the God of creation Who is the Author of Life. 2. It ends God's purposes for a life whose future God had designed to be His glory and man's welfare. 3. It produces a guilt feeling in the mother's heart, which can torture her soul and make life a veritable hell on earth, and which often results in a nervous breakdown or perhaps suicide. 4. It is tantamount to pre-meditated murder. What then may be said about doctors, midwives, nurses, etc., who have performed abortions? One can only say it would be better for them that a millstone be hanged about their necks and cast into the depths of the sea or that they should never have been born to meet an angry God on that fateful day of judgment. Thank God that although one may have been guilty of such a grievous sin as having had an abortion or having performed one, the God of forgiveness says, "If any man will say I have sinned and perverted that which is right, He (God) has found a ransom for that man." Listen further to God's offer of mercy: "Be it known unto you men and brethren that through this Man (the Lord Jesus) is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins, and by Him all that believe are justified from all things from which they could not be justified by the law of Moses" (Acts 13:38, 39).
